Many of you are going to be sad to hear that I am going away for a little while…However, I’ll be coming back with brand-spanking new products geared specifically towards beginning English writers and those looking to really take their writing to a higher-quality level.
To be honest, I am swamped with work, I have colleges to apply to, and Writer Seven is just not on the level that I want it to be on. If recent events have taught me anything, it is that it’s important to up your game and represent yourself well…and stop wasting “energy units” on the stupid things. Now, I’ve already talked about some changes that will be coming, however, I’d like to take the time to explain how those ideas have been developing in my own head and will be developing on paper.
New Ideas for Writer Seven (mentioned and not mentioned):
Writer Seven has been receiving some great response, but it’s just not on the tier that I want it to be on. Updates come at infrequent times and infrequent days, and let’s face it, you can’t build a blog without great stability. In addition, the design, while cool, is not doing the job that I want it to do (enhancing the content and drawing in clients) and there’s just not enough in-depth information for my own liking. So, I’ve been generating ideas that I hope to put into motion.
Steady Posting Schedule
For a few months, I will be attempting to have a post ready every two days. I plan on making these posts more informative, more engaging, and a hell of a lot more useful with more resource links and downloads coming your way. I’ve already dug up a ton of great information that I’d love to share. This “quality upgrade” will include:
- Reviews of Author Compensation Programs: How effective is Triond versus Ehow? What tips are available for maximizing your profits? These are the questions I will be asking as I go into reviewing some of these programs.
- Interviews with successful writers: I’ll be interviewing freelance writers, authors, and editors to get the scoop on what makes them so successful. The first interview is with a Digital Point Forums member who makes great money through her own copywriting business.
- Words to Know Wednesday Series: For those of you looking to improve your vocabulary, I’ll be coming up with 7 words to know. Every week will have a theme, and I’ll be flirting with the concept of downloadable practice tests.
- In-Depth Guides: I will be cranking out posts geared towards learning about one kind of writing and teaching you, step-by-step, how to write in different formats. I’ve already written How to Write a Press Release and now I’ll be working on “How to Write a Personal Statement,” for those of us coming into the college application time.
- Content Revision: I will be going back and “upgrading” old posts in terms of keywords, examples, resources, links, and more, so stay tuned not just for great new content, but revitalized posts as well! I’m still working on developing my personal writing style, and I’ll be making strides to show that style through my old posts and new posts.
Upgraded Design
Everybody knows I can’t resist a chance to redesign, but now that I’m getting older, I’m prioritizing. I really want to strive to make this design the final one, and I have a few goals I hope to accomplish with that:
- Improved Readability: I will be spending the largest amounts of time on post formatting and typography. This blog is all about writing and I want to make the content as easy to read and work with as possible.
- Solid Branding: I’ll be coming up with a workable logo and some promotional graphics, as well as a more unique color scheme to set Writer Seven apart from the other competition. I’ve already got a few ideas for new looks that might fit the brand well. In addition, you’ll be seeing the MTP (Minus the Pie) logo around. More on that later.
- Better Client Conversion: This blog also serves as my personal portfolio, and I plan on enhancing that aspect of the blog. Now, there won’t be any in-your-face ads, but you’ll definitely see a little more of myself and my business around the main blog area.
- Better Usability: The site is kind of hard to navigate right now, but that will all change with the new design. You will be able to get information on the kind of writing you want to learn about faster, and the posts will be more inter-connected.
New Products
After I get the ball rolling, I’ll be introducing products (free and paid) that will help improve and seriously enhance your writing skills. Let me explain:
- Free Workbooks: I am currently developing free grammar workbooks for beginners. These books will have basic explanations and tons of examples and ideas about usage. In addition, they will come with plenty of practice exercises.
- Instructional Videos: I plan on creating instructional videos to go alongside the free workbooks.
- Intermediate and Expert Workbooks: The more advanced workbooks will be paid, but they will also come with tons more resources, including longer and more advanced instructional videos.
- Guidebooks to Writing: In the future I also plan to develop guides to writing in certain formats, such as guides to writing more effective memos, press releases, and more. These will include templates. The free/paid status of these workbooks is up in the air.
What Do You Think?
Those are my three fundamental ideas for greatly improving this blog. I’m aiming to have the new Writer Seven established by November. Please let me know what you think about the blog now, these ideas, or just any comments you’d like to share!
