It is important that you understand, dear reader, that this is not main girl of our story. This is her best friend. Her name is Haley, and as she sits in the dark waiting room beneath the slowly turning ceiling fan, she is desperate for escape. The grief she feels swirls around her, echoing out through her sobs which descend upon the room with a somber atmosphere. She is inconsolable.

Her life is not always this chaotic. Haley is a confident creature, possessing eyes that shine with determination and a stature that commands attention. Her voice is distinct and recognizable – like the sound of a trumpet heralding from far beyond the horizon.

Today the heralding call has deformed into a longing wail, and as she struggles to calm herself, a commotion stirs her from the darkness. A great wooden door opens and yet another shadow is cast upon the darkened room. It is the science teacher.

What Do You Think?

Just a quick notice – the other characters’ prologues will be longer than this one. You’ll read more about the best friend as the story progresses and towards the end of the tale.

I hope you enjoyed the “official” beginning of what I would like to call An Almost Biography. If you missed it, please go back and read The Introduction. Oh, and don’t forget to subscribe to the feed for updates on when the tales are posted. Of course, you can also subscribe to the newsletter in the sidebar for behind-the-character information. ;)
